HAPPY MONDAY! We've come up with lots of inspiration links from different artists and exhibitions. Enjoy and share.

http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/8/view/17642/london-2012-olympic-coin-designs-revealed.html - Continuing on a tradition dating back to the 1952 Helsinki Olympic games, the
official UK £5 coins of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games have been revealed. Birmingham School of Architecture student Saiman Miah's design of the Olympic coin features the London skyline next to the river Thames with pictograms of athletes revolving around the circumference of the surface, much like the face of a clock. 'As an architecture student I wanted to include a detailed impression of London's iconic skyline on my design,' says Saiman. '[The pictograms is] a reference to another London icon, Big Ben.'

http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/8/view/19328/get-ahead-of-the-games-ease-of-olympic-travel-campaign.html - International marketing agency
M+C Saatchi has created 'get ahead of the games', a national advertising campaign to help raise awareness of travel delays, tips and planning for inhabitants and visitors in London during the 2012 Olympic and paralympic games. The campaign was developed to engage with various methods of communication, covering social media, website and printed distribution, decorating newspapers, cell phones and metro stations alike. In anticipation of the games, organisations such as transport for London, the Olympic delivery authority, the mayor of London, national rail, highways agency and department for transport are working collaboratively to release up to date information about city transportation through the 'get ahead of the game' website and twitter feed. The light-hearted illustrations developed display digitised caricatures of Olympic and Paralympic athletes, wearing the apparel of their sport, causing a disruption in the normal flow of commuter traffic.

http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/8/view/21754/mwm-graphics-and-attik-london-2012-olympics-coca-cola-branding.html - The first phase of art was to create this hyper detailed, abstract rendition of COCA COLA LONDON 2012. From this master file we extracted dozens of 'moments' that became the graphic asset library.

http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/8/view/21759/turner-duckworth-team-usa-coca-cola-cans.html - The Coca-Cola Olympic games campaign highlights the Coca-Cola 8 pack of athletes, graphically captured in action within their sports. The designs cleverly use patriotic stripes to convey movement and context for the different sports. The cans will rotate throughout the summer with a new one hitting the market every 2 weeks, culminating with a can featuring a special composite logo in time for the opening of the Olympic games.  There are 6 different fridgepack versions launching in 2 phases.  Designs are also extended across larger can packs, bottle labels, and mini cans. The designs will also appear on in-store displays, premiums and select TV spots.

http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/9/view/22238/and-architects-bp-pavilion.html -
and architects along with kbw design have recently revealed the BP pavilion for the upcoming 2012 Olympic games in London. The initial striking feature of the pavilion is the expansive mirror facade that displays all activity happening in its proximity. The experience also includes the 'walk in the park' installation, a free standing angled structure which contains a convex mirror that allows the individual to pose in front of the reflected backdrop of the Olympic stadium.

http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/10/view/22599/banksy-london-olympics-2012.html - Prominent street artist
Banksy has produced two new pieces commenting on the 2012 London Olympics. The pole vaulter and missile brandishing javelin thrower are amongst a debate surrounding the removal of graffiti in London in preparation for the upcoming Olympics. Because his work is considered one of the great attractions of the city, controversy has been directed towards that of Banksy in particular, as a past event in which his 2007 stencils were painted over by Bristol street cleaners was considered a mistake.

http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/9/view/22671/olympic-stadium-for-london-2012-by-populous.html - The opening ceremony for London's summer Olympics will be held tonight, July 27 at 8:00 ET within the 'olympic stadium' by international practise
populous. The venue is capable of hosting 80,000 spectators for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the athletic track and field events over the course of the two week long contest. The compact bowl brings the audience closer to the action than in past Olympics. the firm prioritized the transition to a 25,000 seat capacity after the conclusion of the games, exploring form, materials, structure and operating systems. a composition of simple forms with demountable connections minimizes the fabrication time and weight of the entire structure. Theatre staging for the ceremonies can also be easily installed and overlayed in this same method.

http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/8/view/22662/hat-trick-design-london-2012-olympics-stamps.html -
Hat-trick have designed a set of four postage stamps to mark the start of the London 2012 Olympics. The stamps feature iconic London landmarks blended with Olympic sports to celebrate both the sport and the landmarks of London - they will be released tomorrow in the UK (Friday 27th July).

The design and print projects Trident has been involved in recently:

We eat, sleep and breathe great design whether its one of our projects or not and we really enjoy sharing our opinions. So this weeks blog is going to discuss some interesting projects we have been up to and we want you to give us some feedback on them.

First up is the redesign of Banner Specialist Brochure

Banner Specialist are a leading local printer for large format banners and large format promotional materials, they have recently moved in to the football gift market. They pride themselves on their appearance and great quality service.

The brief for this brochure was to create something eye catching, to promote a new side of their business which was football gifts. Banner Specialist are slowly becoming the local authority for banner printing, and its been a pleasure to work along side them to create something that will push their business forward and promote sales. This brochure needed to be something that could be paced around the office and drive sales.

With the brief taken we used the football theme to illustrate the items that needed promotion, using footballs, grass and scoreboards. Banner Specialist now have a dynamic layout for each side of the business.

Our second project with a twist was the On the Pond Flyer for Off the Piste

Off The Piste is the UK’s leading student Snowsports tour operator and we are opening our doors to the masses, bringing quality, budget ski holidays to graduate and adult groups of all sizes. Whether there are 4 or 400 people, Off The Piste can provide a tailor made ski holiday to suit your needs.

The brief for this flyer was to update the existing design with a move toward a more sporting snowsports image. The Flyer was a great project, it was such a pleasure to do something that had a bit more of an edge whilst still retaining a commercial aspect. As you can see we have progressed the On the Pond brand and projected it to a wider more snowsported audience.

Last but not least was the G Adventures Brochure Management and Print for G Adventures

G Adventures with nothing more than two credit cards and a burning desire to create an authentic, sustainable travel experience like nothing the world had ever seen. By offering adventure-craving travellers an alternative to the resorts, cruises and motorcoach tours they were accustomed to, they not only changed the way people looked at their holiday time, but changed the face of travel forever.

The brief was to print manage the G Adventures rebrand, it was a great project which went smoothly and successfully.

We have been up to a lot but some of it has to be kept under wraps for now so you need to keep your eyes peeled for the latest and greatest from TEAM TRIDENT!! Why not visit out website www.tridentdesign.co.uk or join us on Twitter @tridentstudio.

Lomography

Lomography is taking a photographic revival. Everyone getting back to the film camera of yesteryear, compared with today’s technological advances with cameras producing quick and easy pictures at high-resolution, with there automatic settings, high-speed shutter settings, etc. And also with the editing process thanks to computers and such programmes as Photoshop.

While most of us growing up waiting for our holiday pictures to be developed. You can see your pictures immediately, with the option of delete or save, an option not available with earlier film cameras. For a long time it seemed as if the old days of film photography were over, until a blast from the past came to the rescue...

Some facts about Lomography...

In 1991, two students in Vienna, Austria stumbled upon a compact-sized Russian camera called the Lomo Kompakt Automat.
They began taking pictures just for fun without thinking. After they came back to Austria, they were amazed to find that the photos they took had extremely rich colours, uncomposed, spontaneous snapshots, especially in the street and in low light. Since then the history of lomography has begun.

The characteristics of Lomography are saturated colours, depth of field, edge darkening, light distortion. The best subjects are images which contain high colour, stone rock or gravel textures, as well as shiny objects like metal. Another add-on to the camera is a wideangle lens which produces Fisheye.

However, if you don't own a LOMO camera, then you can achieve the same effect using a lomography photoshop action that can be downloaded.

Pantone of the Year 2012: Tangerine Tango

The fashion world drives the trends every year, especially in colour. The fashion weeks across the world are the place to be and the place Pantone gain their inspiration. They have access to the designer’s pieces before they are even shown to the world. Pantone experts look at the colour selections used by the fashion houses and then show them to the world as a special colour palette which can be used in all market sectors particularly DESIGN.

Pantone is one of the most influential leaders in the design industry and every year they promote colours of the year and in 2011 PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle was the most influential colour for their company. Pantone “encouraged us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor” so this year we expected a lot from their choice of colour. This is where the 2012 Pantone Tangerine Tango comes into full force. This colour has been classed as “a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward”. Pantone goes on to delve deeper into the feelings and thoughts promoted by this colour - “Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

With that immense description we can go further to discuss the history and background of the colour and over the past several years, orange has grown in popularity and acceptance among designers and consumers alike. Due to the striking beauty of the colour major fashion houses such as Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, Cynthia Steffe by Shaun Kearney, Elie Tahari and Adrienne Vittadini, are incorporating this attractive orange into their spring collections. With this said it’s more than likely, like most hues to trickle into the Autumn Winter seasons.

In a wider sense Tangerine Tango sways over to the cosmetics industry as a winner. Because of its versatility, as it is a bit exotic, but in a very friendly, non-threatening way. From the catwalk, high end or low-end outlets, you can add a sultry flair to lips, cheeks and nails with Tangerine Tango.

This colour is so dynamic it features in the world of men and women. You’ll see it used in a different hue for the huge technology company Orange. So going on to other sectors you’ll find that Tangerine Tango can energize interior spaces from patterned home accessories, for use in pillows bedspreads and tabletop accessories in this high-impact hue add spice to any room.

We as a design agency will look forward to producing quality artwork with this vigorous colour as its strong point. We can look forward to a future that is bold and bright.

Is there only one tablet to buy... ?

Is there only one tablet to buy... ?

What is a tablet? A tablet computer, or a tablet, is a mobile computer, larger than a mobile phone or personal digital assistant, integrated into a flat touch screen and primarily operated by touching the screen rather than using a physical keyboard.
It often uses an onscreen virtual keyboard therefore can partially replace a computer.

First commercial portable electronic devices based on the concept appeared at the end of the 20th century. Microsoft attempted a relatively unsuccessful product line with Microsoft Tablet PC, which carved a niche market at hospitals and outdoor businesses. In 2010 Apple released the iPad based on the technology developed in their iPhone which caused a real stir when it launched. Now other manufacturers have released their own tablets, but can they compete.

The Amazon Kindle is a series of e-book readers now in their latest generation, which enable users to shop for, download, browse, and read e-books, newspapers, magazines, blogs, and other digital media via wireless networking. Also, there’s the BlackBerry PlayBook which also allows you to browse on the go with secure connection to any BlackBerry smartphone with access to 100’s of apps

So the crazy leaders in the tablet race are Apple with their iPad, nobody else has really figured out how to get a piece of this pie yet.

There is one injury you can get from using the preferred tablet... Dubbed 'ipadhand', users have complained of aches and pains in the hand they hold the device with and in their fingers after typing on and swiping the screen... be warned!!

Tips for Working with Clients: Approaching the Relationship

Trident have been through the client process, these facts and opinions are opinions and others opinions to give you the most balanced opinions from around the world. We hope you find this as interesting and as insightful as we have.

Gain clients carefully. Selecting your clients carefully is the first step in a responsible client/designer relationship. You should have a clear idea of who the client is and what needs exist, and the client should have a clear idea of your expertise or that of your firm.

Collaborate and negotiate. Be able to explain your vision to the client and why it’s the best possible solution to their design problem. While you should defend your ideas, when possible it’s a good idea to give in to the client.

Maintain contact. If you are proactive about contacting the client and providing updates, the client will feel important and have more confidence in your work.

Stick to deadlines. It doesn’t matter if you have to give up an occasional weekend or work thirteen-hour days for a week. Part of being a professional designer is getting your work done on time.
